Notes and Coins
We use money to purchase things of our requirements. All the coins and notes are issued by the
Reserve bank of India. Here are some notes and coins we use in India.
We have learnt how to express money in words and figures. Let us revise it.
` 78.50 is written as 78 rupees 50 paise or seventy-eight rupees and fifty paise in words.
Similarly, ` 63.75 is written as 63 rupees 75 paise or sixty-three rupees and seventy-five paise
in words.
Absorbing Facts
Every note has its value written in 17 languages
including Hindi and English and remaining
15 languages are as follows :
Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Bengali, Assamese,
Kannada, Gujarati, Konkani, Kashmiri, Malayalam,
Marathi, Napali, Oriya, Telugu, Urdu.
Conversion of Rupees into Paise
To convert rupees into paise, we multiply the amount in rupees by 100.
For example, 6 rupees = 6 × 100 paise = 600 paise [1 rupee = 100 paise]
18 rupees = 18 × 100 paise = 1800 paise
To convert ‘rupees and paise’ into paise, we multiply the amount in rupees by 100 and
add it to the number of paise. Fact-o-meter
For example, To convert rupees and
26 rupees 35 paise = (26 × 100) paise + 35 paise paise into paise, we
= 2600 paise + 35 paise = 2635 paise remove the decimal
and the sign of ‘`’. For
175 rupees 80 paise = (175 × 100) paise + 80 paise example,
= 17500 paise + 80 paise = 17580 paise ` 47.25 = 4725 paise.
` 16.75 = 16 rupees 75 paise = (16 × 100) paise + 75 paise
= 1600 paise + 75 paise = 1675 paise
