              (d) 6 notes of ` 20 and 5 coins of ` 5 = ___________ .

              (e) 5 notes of ` 50 and 2 notes of ` 10 = ___________ .
          2. The teacher asked each student to bring ` 200 for picnic. Palak took 7 notes of ` 20 and 4
notes of ` 10. Did she carry enough money?
          3. Anju has 7 notes of 10 rupees each, 5 notes of 5 rupees each and 3 notes of 2 rupees. Find
              the total amount she had.

          4. Manju bought a book which costs ` 82. She gave a 100-rupee note. The bookseller gave her
4 different banknotes. What notes were these?
        Addition and Subtraction of Money
To add or subtract given amounts of money, we use these steps:
Step 1: Express the given amounts in figures using decimal.

Step 2: Arrange the given amounts in columns such that all the decimal points fall into one
                     column.
Step 3: Add or subtract the amounts as ordinary numbers and put the decimal point before

                     two decimal places (from right).

              Let’s Attempt

        Example 1: Add ` 475.25, ` 95 and ` 0.75. Example 2: Subtract ` 93.65 from ` 270.

        Solution: 1 1 1 1 Solution: 1 16 9 9 10
                          ` 4 7 5 . 2 5 ` 2 7 0 . 0 0

                          ` 9 5 . 0 0 – ` 9 3 . 6 5
                       + ` 0 . 7 5 ` 1 7 6 . 3 5
                          ` 5 7 1 . 0 0
Thus, the required sum is ` 571. Thus, required difference is ` 176.35.

Example 3: Ankita purchased vegetables for ` 153.75; fruits for ` 231.25 and grocery items for
` 578. How much money did she spend in all?

        Solution: Money spent on vegetables = ` 153.75 1 1 1 1

                          Money spent on fruits = ` 231.25 ` 1 5 3 . 7 5
                          Money spent on groceries = ` 578 ` 2 3 1 . 2 5
                          Total Amount = ` 963 + ` 5 7 8 . 0 0

                          Thus, Ankita spent ` 963 in total. ` 9 6 3 . 0 0
