        How Much Money is it?

Let us learn how to calculate the amount of money with the help of following examples.

               Let’s Attempt

Example 1: Arjun wanted to buy some snacks from the market. He had 1 note of ` 20, 2 coins
of ` 2, 2 coins of ` 1 and 3 coins of ` 5. How much money did he carry to market
                       in all?
        Solution: 1 note of ` 20 = ` 20 × 1 = ` 20

                          2 coins of ` 2 = ` 2 × 2 = ` 4
                          2 coins of ` 1 = ` 2 × 1 = ` 2
                          3 coins of ` 5 = ` 3 × 5 = + ` 15 Thus, Arjun carried ` 41 to market.

                          Total amount = ` 41

        Example 2: Mehak has 3 notes of ` 100, 2 notes of ` 200 and 4 notes of ` 50. How much money
                       does she have in all?
        Solution: 3 notes of ` 100 = ` 100 × 3 = ` 300

                          2 notes of ` 200 = ` 200 × 2 = ` 400
                          4 notes of ` 50 = ` 50 × 4 = + ` 200 Thus, Mehak has ` 900 with her.
                          Total amount = ` 900
