Hunters in the Sky
Vultures or Eagles are known as predatory birds.
Let's read about some of these hunters in the sky.
1 Lappet-faced vulture is a large bird with a heavy head and a massive beak.
It has dark feathers and can be easily identified through its pink head and
large fleshy folds of skin on the sides of its neck.
2 Himalayan vultures has a bald white head with a white neck ruff and dark
feathers. It has a distinctive yellow beak. These occupy mountains between
1,500 and 4,000 meters in elevation.
3 Golden Eagle is one of the largest, fastest, nimblest raptors in North
America. It has dark feathers with a white tail and golden feathers on the
back of the head. It is the national bird of Mexico.
4 Harpy Eagle is considered one of the most powerful raptors in the world. It is
covered with slate-black feathers and white from the underside. Its eyesight
is 8 times better than humans
5 Cinereous Vulture is considered to be the largest raptors in the world.
It is a dark brown and broad winged species with a slightly wedge-
shaped tail. This bird is called ‘monk vulture’, because of it’s upright
standing neck feathers that resembles the hood of a monk.
6 Andean condors are black feathered with a white collar around their neck
and white patches along their wings. These birds have bald grayish red
heads, and the males have a fleshy lump at the front of their heads called a
caruncle.
