The Indian Navy ranks seventh in the world. The President
of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Navy. It
is commanded by the Chief of the Naval Staff. The primary
objective of the navy is to secure the nation’s maritime border.
It also works for humanitarian relief during calamities, natural
disasters’ and crises all over the world. The Indian Navy
played a significant role in India’s victory in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971.
The Indian Navy has an approximate strength of 59,000 personnel and a large working fleet of aircraft
carriers, submarines, fleet tankers, and various vessels.

Indian Coast Guard
The Indian Coast Guard is a multi-mission
organisation, conducting round-the-year real-
life operations at sea. The organisation is headed
by the Director General of Indian Coast Guard
(DGICG), who exercises his overall command
and superintendence from the Coast Guard
Headquarters (CGHQ) located in New Delhi.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) protects India’s
maritime interests and enforces maritime law, with jurisdiction over the
territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and exclusive
economic zone.
