Let’s Understand

        Being mindful is giving

        something your complete

        undivided attention. It entails

taking your time to fully absorb

what you are doing, or what

        surroundings you are in.

        Rushing or multitasking are the

        reverse of being mindful. When
you are aware, you are able to

        concentrate better.

        Sometimes, mindfulness comes

to us naturally. Imagine that you are preparing to shoot a basketball foul

shot. You place your feet precisely at the line. You feel the ball in your hands

as you stare up towards the hoop. You bounce the ball a few times while

taking your time. You take your shot while blocking out all the other noises.

Swish and swoosh! You make the shot!

        The Function of Mindfulness

To improve at mindfulness, you must practice it. When you practise

mindfulness over a period of time, you get better. When you are present

and aware, you are able to be mindful in daily life. When you are under stress

and have a challenging task to complete wherein you need to concentrate,

this can be helpful. For example, when you learn to play the piano, you play

a little better in each practise session as it is a challenging task.

Being aware means having a calm focus, paying attention to what you are

doing, and taking your time. And that is when your best shot is simply made

        possible by your awareness.
