                                  Describe the Meaning and Importance of Self-management


            Introduction to Self-Management

            Self-management is the ability  to control and regulate  our emotions,                  Planning
            thoughts and behaviour as per the situation. It is also known as self-
            control or self-regulation. It helps us to achieve pre-determined goals by
            regulating our actions, organising our time and taking responsibility for

            Self-management involves understanding our abilities and interests and
            developing  self-confi dence  through  a  positive  attitude.  Students  who
            possess strong self-management skills manage to do various activities
            effectively like focusing on their tasks, managing their time, cooperating
            with others in school and at home and perform better in their studies..                 Directing


                                                         Thus, we can defi ne self-management as:
                              Manage time
                                                           Our ability to control feelings, emotions and activities.

            Self-management Skills

            Self-management comprises three key skills. These skills are:
               Initiative means identifying a problem and working to solve it without being told what to do.
               Organisational skill is the ability to use our time, energy and resources in the most effective way in order
                 to achieve the goals we have set. It includes defi ning tasks, managing time and sticking to the schedule.
               Accountability is to be able to feel responsible for the completion of tasks. It involves avoiding procrastination,
                 adopting a solution-centred attitude, managing emotions and coping with distress.

            Importance of Self-management
            Self-management is very important in life. By managing ourselves better, we become better at managing our
            emotions and our personal and professional life. Self-management helps us in different ways. It is an important
            tool in developing an overall personality in the following ways:
