Punctuation is used to make sense, clarity and stress in sentences. They are used to
structure and organise the written language.
Let’s Learn Types of Punctuation Marks
Punctuation marks are symbols used in English. Some most commonly used punctuation
marks are ― full stop (.), comma (,), exclamation mark (!), question mark (?), colon (:),
semicolon ( ;), quotation marks (“…” / ’…’), apostrophe (‘), hyphen (-) and dash (—).
Full stop (.)
The full stop is used:
� to indicate the completion of thought, that is not a question or an exclamation.
For example:
New Delhi is the capital of India.

� to show abbreviations. For example:
i.e., a.m., p.m., etc.

Comma (,)
The comma is used to separate:
� a series of nouns. For example:
At the grocers, I bought sugar, tea, milk, bread, and eggs.
