          Let’s Learn Interjections

An interjection is an expression of emotion, usually a sudden one. It is not an essential
part of a sentence, and usually comes at the beginning of a sentence. However, it may
sometimes come at the end or even in the middle of a sentence. It is always followed by
        an exclamation mark (!).

        Read the following sentences.
               Wow! What a beautiful classroom.
            l
Yippee! We have a holiday tomorrow.
            l
What! Have you really lost your mobile phone?
            l
The interjections Wow, Yippee, and What if omitted will not change the meaning of the
sentences in any way. However, they help express the meanings of the sentences in a better
        way.

Some common interjections and the emotions they express are as follows.

                                               Hurrah! — joy
                                               Alas! — grief

                                               Oh! — sadness or wonder

                                               Bravo! — appreciation

                                               What! — surprise or anger
