Letter Writing

                    Note to the students:

When you write a letter, you usually give the following information.

                       1. Sender’s address (left top corner).

                       2. Date.

                       3. Name of the person whom you are addressing.

                       4. The address of the person to whom you are writing. Depending upon the
relationship, you don’t write the address in informal letters. But you do write

                            address in formal letters.

                       5. Salutation: It is a greet word mostly as dear. It is written just after the address.

                       6. In formal letters, the subject is also written after salutation.

                       7. The first sentence of the letter should be a starter line. There are various ways of

beginning a letter. Some examples are: I am happy to or I take this opportunity

to or It is long time I heard of or Let me draw your attention to ....

                       8. After this, the main message of the letter should be written in simple
                            sentences.

                       9. The letter should be given an end by a finish line such as; I hope ................. or
Letter Writing 10. The letter should end with an appropriate valediction, i.e. a gesture, like Yours
                            I look forward to ................. .

sincerely or Yours faithfully (in application) or Yours lovingly (in informal
                            letters).

                     11. At the end, write your name and sign it off if it is a formal letter.
