1.   Sweta is less intelligent than Rithika.

              2.   My brother is heavier than me.
              3.   Stone is harder than cotton.

              4.   The higher we go, the cooler it becomes.

          The comparative form is written in two ways:
              1.   By adding –er to the usual form of the adjective:

                  big → bigger                    far → farther                     weak → weaker
              2.   By using the word—more—before the usual form of the adjective:

                  pleasant → more pleasant                          beautiful → more beautiful

            Remember

            We use the word—than—after the comparative form of an adjective.


          C .  Superlative Form
          The superlative adjective is used to state that a noun possesses a quality to the highest degree.

              1.   The China Wall is the tallest wall in the world.
              2.   The Himalayas is the highest mountains in the world.

              3.   Terrorism is the worst danger for mankind.
                                              or
                 The China Wall is the tallest of all the buildings.
                 The Himalayas is the highest of all the mountains.

                 Terrorism is the worst of all the dangers.

            Remember

               1.   The superlative form of an adjective is preceded by the.
               2.   It is followed by ‘of ’ or ‘in’.

               3.   The superlative forms of adjectives are formed in two different ways:
                   (a)   By adding –est to the usual form of the adjective.
                        heavy → heaviest              strong → strongest               soft → softest
                   (b)   By using most before the usual form.

                        most intelligent              most courageous                  most interesting

               4.   The word most is not always used for the superlative form of the adjective that
                   follows it. When most is not used for a comparison, it does not take the before
                   it and it means— very, very.
                    1.   This situation is most unfortunate now.
                    2.   It is a most interesting movie.
                    3.   Mary is a most extraordinary lady.
