          Letter Writing

Letter writing is an art, and a good letter is always a pleasure to read. To write to our friends or
family members, we write informal letters, and, for official purposes, we write formal letters.

                    • Writer’s contact information.

                    • In case of formal letters:
                    • the recipient’s designation and contact information.

                    • subject – the matter about which you are writing.

                    • Salutation – this would depend upon the type of letter that is being written.
                    • Body of letter – this is where you write the main content.

                    • Closing or Subscription.

                    • Your signature.

          Personal Letter Format
Put your own address on the left top corner.

Put the date after the address.

Begin by salutation or greeting words such as Dear Aunt Molly.
Divide the letter into paragraphs: (a) introduction, (just one or two lines) (b) main body, and

          (c) conclusion.

Put an appropriate closing term at the end on the left side itself. For example: yours lovingly or
          affectionately, regards, etc.
Lastly, put your name below the salutation.

          Of formal letter Format

The second is traditional type in which address and date are right aligned.
