MESSAGES

The aim of writing a message is to give information or news to a person who is not present. The
message is written on the basis of a conversation of two or more people.
Points to Remember

• Information should be given to a third person.

• A message should be written in reported speech.
• ‘Salutation/Signatory’ should be written in brief.

• Information should be given in minimum possible words.
• The information should be clear and legible.

Solved Example

Given below is a telephonic conversation between Nandita and Saumya. Saumya is about to leave
home and won’t be able to meet her mom. She leaves a message for her mom. Write her mother a
message in the answer–sheet given to you.

Nandita : Hello! Could I speak to Mrs Shetty?

Saumya : She is not at home. This is Saumya speaking?
Nandita : Oh, yes, Saumya, where did your mom go? I have a message for her.

Saumya : Mom has gone outside and will return after an hour. What’s the message?
