7 7            Adverbs









               Warm-up




            The given sentences contain errors of adverbs. Correct the same and write them in the given
            space.

            1.  Meera speaks polite.                    __________________________________________
            2.  I go to the park everyday.              __________________________________________

            3.  My sister writes so nice.               __________________________________________
            4.  My uncle plays tennis good.             __________________________________________





          The word that gives more information about a verb is called an adverb. It is used to change or
          qualify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

          Adverbs perform a wide variety of functions by answering the following questions.

            How?—She drives fast.
            When?—He always arrives late.

            Where?—We go together everywhere.

            How often?—They visit us regularly.
            To what extent?—It is terribly hot.

          These adverbial functions may be accomplished by adverbs that stand alone or by adverbial
          clauses or phrases.

          Kinds of Adverbs


          According to the function an adverb performs, there are different kinds of adverbs:
              1.  Adverbs of manner           2.  Adverbs of frequency              3.  Adverbs of place

              4.  Adverbs of time             5    Adverbs of reason                6.  Interrogative adverbs

              7.  Adverbs of degree
          Adverbs of Degree

          The adverbs that are used to depict the intensity of an adjective, a verb, or another adverb are
          called the adverbs of degree. They are usually placed before the word they modify.
