20 20            Letter Writing









          There are two types of letters.

          (a) Informal letters
          (b) Formal letters


          Informal Letters

          An informal (personal / friendly) letter is written to friends and relations.

          It consists of given parts:

          1. Heading         2. Salutation         3. Body           4. Subscription         5. Signature

          1. Heading
          The address is written in the given order:

                Name of the house / apartment number
              l
                Name of the road
              l
                Name of the city
              l
                Name of the state
              l
                Pin Code
              l
          The address is written as follows in the top left-hand corner.

               11, Nilgiri Apartments
               Rohini

               New Delhi 1100XX

              (a)  If writing within the country, the name of the country is not written.

             (b)  The date comes just under the writer’s address and can be written in different ways:
                  4 July 20XX                        Or                    July 14, 20XX

              (c)  A comma is used to divide the month and the year. No full stop is used in the heading as it
                  is not a sentence.

          2. Salutation

          The form of the salutation can be either ‘My Dear’ or ‘Dear’ depending on the writer’s relationship
          with the receiver. ‘My Dear’ is more close than ‘Dear’ and is usually written to real relations and very
          close friends.
