Example 1: The following pictograph shows the number of students of class VI using the various modes of
transport to go to school.

Answer the following questions:

(b) If the total number of students

Solution: (a) 20 students
(b) 56 students should be represented Car
by 56 ÷ 4 = 14 symbols.
Each represents 4 students.
Example 2: The pictograph shows the number of toys sold during the days of a week from a toy shop.

Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Each represents 10 toys.
Answer the following questions:
(a) Find the number of toys sold on each day of the week.
(b) Find the total number of toys sold during the week.
(c) On which day were the maximum number of toys sold?
(d) On which day were the minimum number of toys sold?
Solution: (a) The number of toys sold on each day of the week:
Monday–70, Tuesday–40, Wednesday–90, Thursday–140, Friday–80, Saturday–200
(b) Total number of toys sold = 70 + 40 + 90 + 140 + 80 + 200 = 620
(c) Saturday (d) Tuesday
