CHAPTER OUTLINES

● Organization of Data ● Bar Graph
● Making Frequency Distribution Table ● Interpretation of Bar Graph
● Pictograph ● Difference between Horizontal Bar Graph and Vertical Bar Graph
RECALL
● Data in its original form is called raw Data.
● Collection of facts or numbers gathered to get some information is called Data.
● Data handling is the process of collecting data and presenting it using different types of graphs.
● The number of times a particular observation occurs in the given data is called its frequency.
● Tally marks are useful in organising the data in a tabular form.
Introduction
“Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes in one over.”
“5 students of class VI-B scored 25 out of 30 in a class test. The highest was scored by a girl Vatsala and the lowest
by a boy Akshay.”
How do the commentators or teachers come to these conclusions? In our daily lives, we read or get to know
information about various fields like cricket, election results, population of a country divided on basis of age
group, etc. A collection of these pieces of information is known as data. When this data is presented, organized
and analyzed in an organized form under the branch of mathematics, it is called Statistics.
Defining important terms
● Data: Data is a collection of relevant numerical facts from which conclusions can be drawn.
● Raw data: The numerical data that has been gathered from its original source is called raw data. It is also
termed as primary data.
● Observation: Every individual item in raw data is called an observation.
● Array: The raw data when arranged in ascending or descending order is called an array.
● Frequency: When a particular observation occurs a specific number of times in a given data it is called
its frequency.
Organization of Data
We need to organize raw data in the form of a frequency distribution table to draw meaningful conclusions.
● Arranging data in the form of a table is known as tabulation.
