Multiplication of 3-digit Number by 1-digit Number

Let us multiply 342 by 7.
Arrange the numbers as per their place values and follow these steps:

Step 1: Multiply 2 ones by 7. 1

14 ones = 10 ones + 4 ones = 1 ten + 4 ones 4

Write 4 under ones column and carry over 1 ten to tens column.

28 tens + 1 ten (carried over) = 29 tens × 7

29 tens = 20 tens + 9 tens = 2 hundreds + 9 tens 9 4

Write 9 under tens column and carry over 2 hundreds to hundreds column.

Step 3: Multiply 3 hundreds by 7. Th H T O

3 hundreds × 7 = 21 hundreds 2 1

21 hundreds + 2 hundreds (carried over) = 23 hundreds × 7

23 hundreds = 20 hundreds + 3 hundreds 2 3 9 4
= 2 thousands + 3 hundreds

Write 3 under hundreds column and 2 in thousands column.

Thus, 342 × 7 = 2394
