            Example 2: A fl orist bought 1240 white roses, 1510 yellow roses and 1125 jasmine
                             fl owers. How many fl owers did he buy in all?

            Solution:         Number of white roses                    = 1240                         Th H      T   O

                              Number of yellow roses                   = 1510                          1    2   4    0

                              Number of jasmine fl owers              = 1125                            1    5   1    0
                              Total = 1240 + 1510 + 1125               = 3875                       + 1     1   2    5

                              Hence, the fl orist bought 3875 fl owers in all. 3 8 7 5

            Addition of 4-digit Numbers with Carrying

            The process of carrying over in addition of 4-digit numbers is same as that of 3-digit
            numbers. Let us learn through examples.

                 Let's Try

            Example 1:  Add 5268 and 2785.

            Solution: Arrange the given numbers in columns and then follow these steps:

               Step 1:       Add the ones.                                                            Th H      T   O
                             8 ones + 5 ones = 13 ones = 10 ones + 3 ones                                       1

                                                            = 1 ten + 3 ones                        +  5    2   6    8

                             Write 3 under ones column and carry 1 ten to tens 2 7 8 5
                             column.                                                                                 3
