             7    Mr. Khurana purchased a washing machine for ` 6899 and
                  a microwave for ` 2645 from a shop. How much total money

                  he had to pay for both the items?



            Adding 10, 100 and 1000


            Adding 10

            Let us add 426 and 10

            Step 1: Identify the tens in 4 2 6.            Step 2:  Add 2 tens and 1 ten.
                       It is 2 tens.                                  Write 3 in the tens place keeping other

                                                                      digits same.

                                                                      So, 4  2  6 +  1  0 = 4  3  6

            Adding 100
            Let us add 2436 and 100

            Step 1:  Identify the hundreds in            Step 2:  Add 4 hundreds and 1 hundred.

                       2 4 3 6. It is 4 hundreds.                    Write 5 in the hundreds  place keeping

                                                                     other digits same.

                                                                     So, 2  4  3 6 +  1  0 0 = 2  5  3 6

            Adding 1000

            Let us add 6342 and 1000

            Step 1:  Identify the thousands in             Step 2:  Add 6 thousands and 1 thousand.

                       6 3 4 2. It is 6 thousands.                    Write 7 in the thousands place keeping
                                                                      other digits same.

                                                                      So, 6  3 4 2 +  1  0 0 0 =  7  3 4 2



            Multiples of 10, 100 and 1000 can also be added in the same way


                  1.   4  7 +  3  0 =  7  7                           2.
                                                                           1   3 8  +  4  0 0 =  5  3 8
