Reading Time when Minute Hand is at any Number

● The minute hand goes from one number to the next in 5 minutes.
● When the minute hand is at 12, it shows the hour of a day.
● When it is at 1, it shows 1 × 5 = 5 minutes past the hour.
● When it is at 3, it shows 3 × 5 = 15 minutes or quarter past the hour.
● When it is at 6, it shows 6 × 5 = 30 minutes or half past the hour.
● When it is at 9, it shows 9 × 5 = 45 minutes past the hour.
Half Past
When the minute hand is at 6 and the hour hand is litt le beyond any number, we read
the time as half past that number. For example, in the following clocks the time is read
as shown:

Quarter Past
When the minute hand is at 3 and the hour hand is litt le beyond any number, we read
the time as quarter past that number. For example, in the following clocks the time is
read the given as shown:
