Example 1: Raima got her lunch from the canteen. She bought a sandwich for ` 15.75
and a juice can for ` 20.50. What was the total bill of the lunch?

Solution: Amount spent on sandwich = ` 15.75
` 1 5 . 7 5
Amount spent on juice = ` 20.50 + ` 2 0 . 5 0

Total Amount = ` 15.75 + ` 20.50 = ` 36.25 ` 3 6 . 2 5

Hence, she spent ` 36.25 in total.

Example 2: Tulika purchased a pencil box for ` 156.30 and a notebook for
` 35. If she had ` 200 with her, how much money would she get back aft er
the purchase? ` 1 5 6 . 3 0

Solution: Cost of pencil box = ` 156.30 + ` 3 5 . 0 0

Cost of notebook = ` 35.00 ` 1 9 1 . 3 0

Total Amount = ` 156.30 + ` 35.00 = ` 191.30 ` 2 0 0 . 0 0

She had ` 200.00 with her, so amount left – ` 1 9 1 . 3 0

= ` 200 – ` 191.30 = ` 8.70. ` 8 . 7 0

Example 3: Rahul bought 8 toys. If each toy costs ` 135.75, fi nd the amount he spent?

Solution: Cost of one toy = ` 135.75

Cost of 8 toys = ` 135.75 × 8 ` 1 3 5 . 7 5
× 8
Hence, the total money spent by Rahul is ` 1086.
