             ● We have learnt about straight lines and curved lines in the previous class.

             ● Shapes can be triangles, squares, circles, rectangles, etc. These all are plane fi gures.

             ● Objects around us are mostly solids as they occupy space.

The word Geometry comes from the Greek word– 'Geo' meaning earth and 'Metron'

        meaning measurement.

        Point

A point shows a defi nite position or location. A dot (.) represents A Y

a point and is denoted by any capital lett er A, X, Y or Q as shown X
in the adjacent fi gure. The tip of a needle or a pencil is an example Q
        of point.

        Line Segment

When we join two points using a straight edge or a ruler, a line segment is obtained. AB
is the line segment writt en as AB. Points A and B are called the end points. Line segment

is a part of a line. It has a defi nite length which can be measured.
