        Long Division Method
As we have learnt before, division can be done in different ways.

        For example, Fact-o-meter
Division by zero is not possible.
We cannot change the order of the
            16 ÷ 8 = 2 dividend and divisor in division.

                                                                        For example, 14 ÷ 2 cannot be
Dividend Divisor Quotient written as 2 ÷ 14.

When we write in long division form, we represent it as:

                            2 Quotient Divisor 8 16 2 Quotient
        Divisor 8 16 Dividend or
                                                                                   Dividend

We use long division for such problems that need more than one step as it is convenient.

Division of 2-digit Number by 1-digit Number

Let us learn how to divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number with the help of some
        examples.

              Let’s Attempt

        Example 1: Divide 24 by 2. T O

        Solution: Step 1: Divide 2 tens by 2. 1 2

                                     2 tens ÷ 2 = 1 ten 2 2 4
Write 1 as quotient and 2 under tens column and – 2

                                     subtract. 0 4

                          Step 2: Divide 4 ones by 2. – 4
                                                                                                              0
                                     Since 2 × 2 = 4, 4 ÷ 2 = 2

Write 2 as quotient and 4 under ones column
                                     and subtract.

Now, remainder is zero. T O

                                     Thus, 24 ÷ 2 = 12 2 4
                                                                                                        3 7 2
        Example 2: Divide 72 by 3. – 6

        Solution: Step 1: Divide 7 tens by 3. 1 2

Write 2 in the quotient at tens place and write – 1 2
                                     6 (= 3 × 2), below 7. 0

                                     Now, subtract 6 from 7 : 7 – 6 = 1
