Patterns in Mathematics 13

        PATTERNS IN SHAPES
Beside numbers, pattern is an arrangement of objects in which all the members are related with each other by a
specific rule. After knowing the rule of a given pattern we can continue it further.
Let’s look at the following patterns.

In this pattern, the first three elements are repeated.

In this pattern, the two shapes are repeated alternately.

In this pattern, the position of arrow changes clockwise.

In this pattern, the two shapes are repeated alternately.

        Shapes Related to Numbers Sequence
        These are as follows

        1. Regular Polygons

                             Triangle Quadrilateral Pentagon Hexagon
No. of sides = 3 No. of sides = 4 No. of sides = 5 No. of sides = 6

                            Heptagon Octagon Nonagon Decagon
No. of sides = 7 No. of sides = 8 No. of sides = 9 No. of sides = 10

        2. Stacked Squares

                                                                                                2
                                                                     2
                   2
                               2
                  1  = 1      2  = 4            3  = 9              4  = 16                    5  = 25
        3. Stacked Triangles

                                                                                                2
