Symmetry 129
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: List any four symmetrical objects.
Solution: LED TV, table top, blackboard and door.
Example 2: For given Fig. which one is the mirror line, l or l ?
1
2
Solution: Since the figure is symmetrical about l , therefore it is the mirror line. Fig.
2
Example 3: Check whether the given figures are symmetrical or not. In case they are symmetrical, draw the
line(s) of symmetry.
(i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi)
Solution: Figure (i), (ii), (iv) and (vi) are symmetrical, while figures (iii) and (v) are not symmetrical.
(i) (ii) (iii) (iv)
Example 4: How many lines of symmetry does a rectangle have?
Solution: Draw a rectangle ABCD and mark the midpoints of all its
sides.
If we fold the rectangle along PR, we observe that the two
parts coincide with each other.
Also, fold it along QS. We find that the two parts of its
coincide with each other. Fig.
Thus, a rectangle has two lines of symmetry.
Example 5: Draw the line/lines of symmetry for the following.
(i) (ii) (iii)
Solution: (i) (ii) (iii)
