P. 35
The Four Fundamental Operations 33
Multiplicative Property of ‘0’
The product of a number and ‘0’ is always ‘0’.
For example, 0 × 398676 = 0; 983896 × 0 = 0.
Multiplicative Property of ‘1’
If a number is multiplied by ‘1’, the product is the number itself.
For example, 783569 × 1 = 783569.
Multiplication of a Number by 10, 100, 1000
To multiply a number by 10, just write the number and add a zero to its extreme right.
For example, 768935 × 10 = 7689350; 516109 × 10 = 5161090.
To multiply a number by 100, write the number Fact-o-meter
and add two zeros to its extreme right. Multiplication by multipliers ending
For example, 76893 × 100 = 7689300; with 0’s can be done without
calculating we have to just add the
35105 × 100 = 3510500. required number of zero.
To multiply a number by 1000, write the number and add three zeros to its extreme right.
For example, 68135 × 1000 = 68135000; 5698 × 1000 = 5698000.
Multiplication of a Number by any Multiple of 10, 100 or 1000
First write the multiple (of 10, 100 or 1000) as the product of 10, 100 or 1000 (as the case may
be) and the multiplier digit.
For example, write 60 as 6 × 10; 500 as 5 × 100; 3000 as 3 × 1000.
Multiply the given number with the multiplier digit and then put appropriate number of zeros
to the right of the product.
For example, 115 × 600 = 115 × 6 × 100 = 690 × 100 = 69000
