P. 33

The Four Fundamental Operations 31

               Let’s Attempt

        Example 1: Simplify 7,10,39,341 + 2,21,11,618 – 5,12,56,347

        Solution: Step 1: 7,10,39,341 + 2,21,11,618 = 9,31,50,959
                        Step 2: 9,31,50,959 – 5,12,56,347 = 4,18,94,612

        Example 2: Evaluate: 35,28,619 – 11,16,208 – 11,410.

        Solution: Step 1: 35,28,619 – 11,16,208 = 24,12,411

                        Step 2: 24,12,411 – 11,410 = 24,01,001
                        35,28,619 – 11,16,208 – 11,410 = 24,01,001

Example 3: What should be subtracted from 9,83,86,186 to get the sum of 1,28,67,812 and
                        3,28,61,619?
Solution: It is clear from the given problem that it involves both addition and subtraction.
                        Sum of 1,28,67,812 and 3,28,61,619

                              1,28,67,812 + 3,28,61,619 = 4,57,29,431

To find out the number that should be subtracted from 9,83,86,186 to get the above
sum, we must find the difference of 9,83,86,186 and 4,57,29,431.
                             \ 9,83,86,186 – 4,57,29,431 = 5,26,56,755

Thus, 5,26,56,755 should be subtracted from 9,83,86,186 to get the sum of 1,28,67,812
                        and 3,28,61,619, i.e., 4,57,29,431.

                                                   Exercise 3.3

        Simplify the following expressions.
           1. 6,78,12,389 – 1,26,26,121 + 2,12,38,161

           2. 9,83,51,239 – 1,23,61,211 – 2,36,12,381
           3. Add the difference of 6,78,93,651 and 5,23,61,819 to 1,68,93,775.

           4. How much more is 6,51,79,876 than 3,12,67,619?

           5. The sum of two numbers is 6,78,39,616. One of them is 3,87,83,619. Find the other number.
           6. Subtract the sum of 6,75,52,615 and 1,65,38,969 from 9,98,86,677.

           7. Out of 72,39,416 fish, were caught on a certain day, 35,69,810 were exported and 24,31,060
were sold in the local market. Find the number of fish remained unsold.

        Multiplication

To multiply two large numbers, we follow the same rules as learnt in previous class.
        Let’s learn through examples.
