Division by 10, 100, 1000
We have studied division by 10, 100, 1000 in detail in Class IV. Let us revise the same here.
Division Quotient Remainder

Word Problems
The situations which involve equal distribution, equal regrouping, inverse of multiplication
or repeated subtraction of the same quantity from a given quantity involve the operation of
division.
Let’s Attempt
Example: A factory produces 16,56,000 balls in a year. 576 balls are packed in a carton.
How many cartons are required to pack the balls produced in that year?
Solution: Number of balls produced during the year = 16,56,000 2 8 7 5
Number of balls packed in one carton = 576 576 1 6 5 6 0 0 0
Number of cartons required for packing 16,56,000 balls – 1 1 5 2
5 0 4 0
= 16,56,000 ÷ 576 = 2875 – 4 6 0 8
2875 cartons are required. 4 3 2 0
