P. 32
30 Maths
Let’s Attempt
Example: Subtract 2,81,65,236 from 6,14,78,165.
Solution: 5 11 7 11 5 15
6 1 4 7 8 1 6 5
– 2 8 1 6 5 2 3 6
3 3 3 1 2 9 2 9 The difference of the given numbers is 3,33,12,929.
Properties of Subtraction
The order of numbers involved in subtraction cannot be changed.
For example, 520 – 325 ≠ 325 – 520
When a number is subtracted from itself, the difference is zero.
Or
When the minuend and the subtrahend are the same, the difference is zero.
For example, 45,245 – 45,245 = 0
When zero is subtracted from the number, the difference is the number itself.
For example, 45,245 – 0 = 45,245
Exercise 3.2
1. Write in columns and find the difference.
(a) 61,82,366 and 20,71,325 (b) 7,89,36,869 and 1,76,15,726
(c) 87,98,32,868 and 51,23,01,526 (d) 78,36,186 and 19,17,096
2. Find a number which is.
(a) 21945 less than 34,09,684. (b) Added to 7,35,469 gives the sum 14,70,828.
(c) Obtained as the difference when we subtract 29,41,634 from the number formed by
reversing its digits.
3. Fill the missing digits.
(a) 6 7 0 4 5 3 (b) 7 3 8 6 7 4
– 2 9 7 2 4 – 5 1 3 0 6
1 9 2 4 1 7
Combined Operations of Addition and Subtraction
Whenever addition and subtraction are given together in an expression,
First add Then subtract
But while solving the statement problem, you must follow the given sequence, i.e., if you need
to subtract, then first subtract and then add.
