            ™   Bars are drawn to represent the desired number.
            ™   The width of the bars should be uniform throughout and the gap between two bars
               should be uniform throughout.

            ™   In the first bar graph, the name of the months are given along the horizontal line. The
               vertical line is a number line showing the numbers.


            ™   In the second bar graph these two lines are interchanged. The name of the months given
               along the vertical line and the numbers are along the horizontal line.

        Example:         The adjacent column graph shows marks obtained by Deepak in various subjects
                       in Class IV (out of 100).
                       Study the bar graph and answer the following questions.

                      (a)  What does the graph
                           represent?
                      (b)  In which subject did he
                           score the highest marks?
                      (c)  In which subject did he
                           score the least marks?

                      (d)  How much did Deepak
                           score in EVS?
        Solution:  (a)   The  bar  graph  represents
                           the  marks  obtained  by
                           Deepak in various subjects.

                      (b)  He scored the highest marks in Maths.
                      (c)  He scored the least marks in Hindi.
                      (d)  He scored 90 marks in EVS.
