Interpretation of Pictographs
In the above topic, we have learnt how to draw a pictograph with the help of giving data but
here, we will learn how to read the pictograph and fetch the data from it.
Let’s Attempt
Example: The pictograph shows the number
of students in various sections of IV A
Grade IV:
Read the pictograph above and IV B
answer the following questions.
(a) Which section has the maximum IV C
number of students? How IV D
many students are there in that
section? IV E
(b) How many students are there
in Section E? Key: Each = 5 Students.
(c) Which sections have equal
number of students?
(d) How many students are there in total in Grade IV?
Solution: (a) Section B has maximum number of students,
Number of students in section B = Number of symbols × 5
= 8 × 5 = 40
(b) Section E has 5 × 5 = 25 students.
(c) Section A and C have equal number of students, 7 × 5 = 35
(d) Total number of students in Grade IV
= Total number of symbols × 5 = 33 × 5 = 165 students
