Place Value and Face Value
The place value of a digit in a given number is its value due to its place or position in the
number.
Place value of a digit = Face value of that digit × PositionValue of that digit
Face value of a digit in a number is the digit itself.
Place value and face value of 0 is always 0, wherever it may be.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Find the place value and face value of each digit in number 562823.

Example 2: Find the place value of 4 in 340735. L TTh Th H T O
Solution: Here, 4 is at ten thousands place.
So, place value of 4 in 340735 3 4 0 7 3 5
= Face value of 4 × position value of 4
= 4 × 10000 = 40000
