Let’s Understand
Have you ever found yourself feeling too worried
about something? You feel sick to your stomach,
lose your appetite, and wonder what will happen
later. Such feelings can be considered a result of
anxiety.
For example, you work on your English assignment
all night. The next morning while walking to
school, a dog comes and snatches your assignment. You run behind that
dog and find your assignment lying in a muddy pool. You cannot do anything
about it now, and therefore, go to school. You are worried about what your
teacher will say. Will your teacher punish you or understand your situation?
You are too worried to think anything. You do not know what will happen
next. Such feelings that you may experience are all a feeling of anxiety.
The feeling of anxiety can lead to mental distress that stops you from
thinking of solutions calmly. The body’s fight-or-flight response is triggered
by anxiety. You can gather the attention and energy you need for a task
or potential threat, thanks to the release of hormones. The fight-or-flight
response is what triggers the physical symptoms of anxiety such as sweating,
rapid heartbeat, shaking, etc.
It is important to understand how such feelings can be dealt with. Too much
worrying can cause blunders while working because your mind is disturbed
and you are unsure of what to do next. This may also lead to health problems
like loss of appetite or fever. We must learn how to deal with anxiety.
Let us read a story to help us understand it better.
Story
We Are Stronger!
(Adapted from the book by Elizabeth Cole)
Nick had been planning a camping trip for the weekend with his dad for
a very long time. All the preparations were done. They were all set and
ready to go. But Nick was feeling very weird that day.
