TOPIC - 5: Linear Inequality

ACTIVITY 5.1

OBJECTIVE
To obtain a quadratic function with the help of linear functions graphically.

MATERIAL REQUIRED
 Hardboard  White chart paper

 Pieces of wires  Glue
 Geometry box

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE
1. Knowledge of quadratic equation 2. Knowledge of plotting a graph of a polynomial

PROCEDURE
1. Take a hardboard of a convenient size and paste a white chart paper on it.

2. Take two wires of equal length. Fix them at O in a plane (on the white chart paper) at right angle to each
other to represent x-axis and y-axis.
3. Take another piece of wire and fix it in such a way that it meets the x-axis at a distance of a units from O
in the positive direction and meets y-axis at a distance of a units below O. Mark these points as A and B,
respectively as shown in Fig. (a).

4. Similarly, take another piece of wire and fix it in such a way that it meets the x-axis at a distance of b units
from O in the positive direction and meets y-axis at a distance of b units below O. Mark these points as C
and D, respectively as shown in Fig. (a).
