Layers Panel
You work with layers in the Layers panel. The Layers panel lists all layers, layer
groups, and layer effects in an image. You can use the Layers panel to create new
layers, show and hide layers, delete layers etc.
To display the Layers panel, click Windows on the Application Bar and select the
Layers option.
Background Layer
The Background layer is the default layer that appears when you create
a new image. An image can have only one background layer. It is the
bottommost layer of an image. You cannot change the order of a 1
background layer, its blending mode, or its opacity. However, you can
convert a background layer into a regular layer, and then change any of
these attributes.
To convert a background layer into a regular Photoshop layer:
1. Double-click the Background layer in the Layers panel. 2
The New Layer dialog box opens.
2. Set the layer options and click the OK button.

You can create as many layers in an image as desired. 1
To create a new layer:
1. On the Application Bar, click Layer.
A menu appears.
2. Click New and select the Layer option from the sub-
menu that appears.
The New Layer dialog box opens.
3. Set the following options:
• In the Name box, type a name for the layer. 4
• Click the Color down arrow and select a colour for the layer.
• Click the Opacity down arrow and specify the opacity
level for the layer.
4. Click the OK button.
Photoshop 2022 creates a new layer in the Layers Panel.

You can also create a new layer in an image by clicking the Create a new layer button in the Layers
