Output Devices

Output is the result of the processing performed by the computer on the input.
Output devices provide output to the user in different forms.

Let us learn about different output devices.

          Monitor
Monitor is an output device similar to a television screen. It displays all the work

that we do on a computer. A monitor is also known as VDU (Visual Display Unit). The
output on a monitor is called soft copy. Monitors can be CRT monitors, Flat screen
          monitors, or Touchscreen monitors.

          Printer
Printer is an output device used to print the output displayed on the monitor on

paper. The output produced by a printer is called a printout or hard copy. Printers
          are of different types:

               • Dot matrix printer: It prints by striking a group of pins on paper in the form of
round dots. It is cheap, noisy, and prints only in black colour. It is usually used

to print bills and invoices in offices and shops.

               • Inkjet printer: It prints by spraying droplets of ink on paper to form text and
images. It can print both in black and colour. Its print quality is better than
that of a Dot matrix printer.

               • Laser printer: It uses a laser to burn characters and images on paper. It

produces best quality output, prints both in black and colour, is fast, and does
                  not make any noise.
