Files and Folders
All information stored in a computer is kept in fi les. Different types of fi les store different
types of information. Each fi le is given a fi le name and has a fi le name extension that
identifi es the fi le type. The fi le name and fi le name extension are separated by a period
or a ‘dot’.

For example, a drawing (e.g., with the name Bhawana) created using Paint will have
the extension .png. Thus, its name will be Bhawana .png.

A folder is a location where a group of fi les can be stored.

Files in Computer

Everything on a computer is stored as a fi le of one type or another.
 When we save our work in a program, it is saved as a fi le.
 All software saved on the computer are also stored as fi les.
