 Agriculture: In developed countries, ICT helps farmers to take informed and quality decisions. It is
used for communicating information on weather, soil and seed analysis, useful farming techniques,
realtime pricing, etc., to farmers.
 Medical Services: ICT helps in hospital management, administration and to help doctors and nurses
to diagnose, treat and monitor patients. It is widely used in the pharmaceutical sector for cutting edge
research and manufacturing.

Rama wants to buy some cosmetics online. Which ICT service would she use to do so?

ICT Tools

ICT tools are digital infrastructures which include computers, laptops, desktops, data projector, software
programs, printers, scanners, etc.
Some devices that can be termed as ICT tools are:
 Mobile: It was primarily meant to make calls. But, the ever growing needs to get work done in a jiffy, has
meant that today’s mobile phone is loaded with many more applications apart from the one meant for
making and receiving calls. Making text messages, Voice messaging, Paytm as e-wallet, pictures and music
videos, various apps for specifi c requirements, etc. abound in a typical smartphone.
 Tab: Tab is short form for a computer tablet. It is almost always bigger than a mobile phone and typically
contains all the features of a computer. It has many applications.

 Radio: Radio is the oldest tool and provided entertainment to masses to a
great extent in recent past. It seeks to build up the listener’s attitudes favorable
towards the new information useful to them.

 Newspaper: Press or newspaper is the most important ICT tool.
Agriculture related issues, sports, business, etc or any other related issues
are published in newspapers through which people get knowledge
about the current issues.

 Television: Being an audio- visual medium for communication with audience with low literacy skills, T.V.
has been more advantageous than any other medium.
 Email: The burden of the postal system in India is being borne now by the email system. Gmail, Hotmail,
Yahoo mail, Outlook by Microsoft are the major carriers of the email messages now. It is free and time
saving
