The government has identifi ed following pillars for Digital India:
Broadband Highways: Providing broadband internet to all Gram Panchayats.
Universal access to Phones: Mobile phone coverage will be provided to all villages in the country.
Public Internet access programme: Government is taking steps to ensure that all villages are covered
through mobile connectivity.
E-Governance: The Government takes initiatives to improve processes and delivery of services through
e-Governance with UIDAI, payment gateway, EDI and delivery of services certifi cates, voter ID cards
will be provided online (digi-locker). All databases and information should be in an electronic form and
not manual. The major benefi ts of e-Governance are: informationcommunication speed, cost reduction by
using ICT tools, transparency of word due to Internet, and more accountability to citizens.
e-Kranti electronic delivery of services: e-Kranti is an advanced e-governance programme to deliver
governance services through electronic mode.
Information for All: Information related to governance and public services will be easily provided to
citizens through digital platforms including social media.
Manufacturing of electronic with a target Net Zero Imports: In order to achieve Make in India programme,
the government promotes the manufacturing of digital technology devices, especially electronics in the
country.
