Prepositions of Place
A preposition of place refers to the position of someone or something in respect to something
else where it lies or is kept.
At is used to depict a point. For example:
Meet me at the bus stop.

Our house is located at the crossing of the 15th and 16th Avenues.

In is used to depict a place with boundaries. For example:
He drove the cattle in the shed.

I have created a little pond in my garden.
O
On is used to depict a surface. For example:
The logo was painted on the wing of the aircraft.

I called to greet my grandfather on his birthday.

Some more examples of prepositions of place are beside, above, across, after, against, along,
below, behind, next to, onto, in front of, between, among, opposite, etc.
Prepositions of Time
A preposition of time conveys the idea of time. It is similar to a preposition of place, but is
used in a different way.
At is used for a very specific time. For example:
The boss has called a meeting at 11 o’clock.

I will surely meet you at lunch.
O
In is used to depict a longer period of time. For example:
We had a wonderful time in the summer this year.
O
Man hopes to live on the Moon in the future.
O
On is used to show specific dates of days. For example:
We will light the handpainted lamps on Diwali.

India celebrates its Independence Day on 15th August.
O
By is used to indicate the latest time. For example:
Be here by 9:30 a.m. Prepositions

Get the work done by tomorrow.

Some more examples of prepositions of time are since, for, before, to, past, till/until,
from, etc.
Prepositions of Direction
A preposition of direction depicts the direction or movement of something or someone
with respect to a certain thing.
