Let’s Learn Conjunctions
A conjunction is used to connect words, phrases, clauses or sentences. They are often used
to connect short sentences to avoid repetition and give a better flow to the language. For
example:
I went to the market. I bought some vegetables.

I went to the market and bought some vegetables.

While using conjunctions, all parts of a sentence have to be in agreement. For example:
They went shopping and buy fruits. (This sentence is grammatically incorrect as the

tense is not consistent.)
They went shopping and bought fruits. (This is the correct tense usage.)

Some commonly used conjunctions are and, for, nor, as, just as, not only... but also, because,
or, so, but, neither, whether, yet, etc.

There are three kinds of conjunctions.
Subordinating Conjunctions
Subordinating conjunctions join dependent (subordinate) clauses to independent (main)
clauses. A subordinating conjunction connects the main idea to a place, time or relationship,
depicted in the dependent clause. For example:
