We use the root form of verb + -s/-es with the third person singular (he, she, it) and all
singular subjects (boy, girl, Amit, Sunita, dog, cat, etc.) in the simple present tense.
Read the following sentences.
He teaches me. The boy swims.
O O
It hurts me.
O O My pet plays with me.
We can also form simple present tense by adding -s or -es to the root form of the verbs.
When a noun is in singular form, we usually add -s to the root form of a verb.
play plays speak speaks
sing sings look looks
write writes give gives
sit sits take takes
stand stands run runs
talk talks rain rains
When the root form of a verb ends in a vowel + -y, we add -s to the root form of a
verb:
buy buys enjoy enjoys Simple Present Tense
lay lays pray prays
obey obeys pay pays
When the root form of the verb ends in a consonant + -y, we change -y into i and then
add -es:

cry cries dry dries
study studies bury buries
