Read the daily routine of Amit and underline all the verbs in it.
My name is Amit. I wake up at 7 o’clock daily. After getting up, I brush my
teeth and take a bath. After that, I get ready for my school. I reach school at
8 o’clock. In the school, I eat my lunch during the lunch break and I share
my food with my friends. I come back home at 2 o’clock. I wash my face and
change my clothes. I eat food and take rest for some time. I start studying
again at 4 o’clock. I go out to play at 6 o’clock. I come back home at 7 o’clock.
I finish my homework and have my dinner at 8 o’clock. I go to sleep at 9 o’clock.
Let’s Learn Simple Present Tense
To talk about the ac� ons that take place in the present, we use the simple present
tense.
The words do, take, cook, go, come, rain, eat, play, call, buy, try, fl y, drink, help, write,
teach, sing and dance are verbs. All these verbs are in their root or base forms. Such
verbs are used in the simple present tense.
Observe the use of the root form of the verbs in these sentences.
I do my work.
We cook food.
You take a bath daily.
In the above sentences, the verbs do, cook and take are in their original, simplest
forms. We call these the root forms. Therefore, they are in the simple present
tense.
