                           Agriculture Sector

Agriculture plays a major role in the economic growth and development of any country. In India, it
is the primary source of livelihood for over 58% of the country's population.

                                                   FARM TO FORK

This idea implies that the food we eat, as well as the ingredients, are sourced straight from the farm
        where it was grown.
In India, the government has launched several schemes and programmes to boost this sector.

Let us learn about some of them:

1 Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY): It encourages and certifies organic farming. It also
provides assistance with establishment, training, and offers a portion of profits as an incentive

to farmers for using organic inputs.

2 Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY): It aims at providing all the agricultural
fields an access to protected irrigation and practice ‘per drop more crop’ by minimising wastage
              of water.

3 Neem Coated Urea: Government of India mandated that all producers
must cover urea with neem seed oil to boost nitrogen usage efficiency
              and soil protection.

4 E-NAM: It is a pan-India electronic trading platform that
connects the existing mandis to create a unified national
              market for agricultural goods.

5 Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY): It
              provides insurance coverage and financial
support to the farmers in the event of
failure of any notified crop as a
              result of natural calamities,
              pests, and diseases.
