Nouns and Capital Letters
Most nouns start with small letters unless they are used to begin a sentence. But the given types
of nouns always have their first letters in capitals.
1. My sister Maria is an MA in English.
2. I shall not come to office on Saturday.
3. He has left for London today.
4. Germans are very intelligent and hard-working.
5. He has been learning Spanish for three months.
Countable Nouns
Nouns have two forms—singular and plural. The singular form is used to suggest one person or
thing. The plural form is used to suggest people or things those are more than one. Such nouns
can be counted. So they are called countable nouns.
1. an apple six apples
2. one minute ten minutes
(a) A countable noun has a determiner before it when it is used in singular form.
Rani got into her scooty and started it.
(b) Usually, countable plural nouns do not take determiners before them.
Our school has big classrooms.
