Compound Nouns

Compound nouns are made of word-groups. The groups act as a noun.

(a) These are written separately.

(b) These are written with a hyphen.

bee-keeper passer-by runner-up

T-shirt X-ray brother-in-law

(c) These nouns are written in pairs.

Some nouns are in pairs and are used as singular nouns.
cup and saucer bread and butter pen and paper
