Simple Present Tense
We use the simple present tense to describe an action happening right now or to talk about a
habitual action or occurrence.
l Red stands for danger. l The temple bells ring in the evening.
When the subject is singular, the verb takes an -s/es/ies.
He runs. She finishes her work. He cries a lot.
When the subject is plural, the verb does not take an -s/es/ies.
We run. Sheela and I eat. They stand.
Formation of Sentences in Simple Present Tense
The negative in simple present is formed by using the auxiliary verbs do not or does not + main verb.
l She does not like trekking in the rain. l They do not play after 8 p.m.
