Concrete Nouns

          The names of things that can be touched or seen are called concrete nouns. They name a person,
          place, animal, or thing which is physical and visible. Concrete nouns are further divided into proper,
          common, material and collective nouns.

          Proper Nouns

          The specific names of particular people, places, animals, or things are called proper nouns. They
          always start with a capital letter, no matter which part of the sentence they are in. Proper nouns
          are uncountable nouns which have no plural.

          New Delhi, Teena, St Peter’s School, etc.

          Common Nouns

          The names given in common to people, places, animals, or things are called common nouns. These
          nouns are countable nouns which have plural forms.

          boy, doctor, festival, month, etc.

          Material Nouns

          The names of substances or ingredients used for making things are called material nouns.  These
          nouns are uncountable nouns which have no plural forms.
          oil, water, metal, etc.

          Collective Nouns

          The names of groups of people, animals or things are called collective nouns. These nouns can be
          either countable or uncountable nouns.

          crowd of people, bunch of grapes, flock of sheep, etc.

          Here is a list of collective nouns.

               a bouquet of flowers               a train of camels                 a pack of wolves

               a brood of chickens                a convoy of trucks                a quiver of arrows

               a grove of trees                   a fleet of ships                  a shoal of fish

               a cloud of dust                    a galaxy of stars                 a swarm of bees


               a colony of rats                   a gang of theives                 a troop of monkeys

               a choir of singers                 a litter of puppies               an army of soldiers

               a set of compasses                 a muster of peacocks              a forest of trees
