          There are two types of articles.

          Indefinite Articles: a/an


          A and an are called indefinite articles because they do not point out any particular
          person or thing.

            1.  a man—means any man

            2.  an atlas—means any atlas


          Use of ‘A’

                  The use of a is based on the pronunciation of singular countable nouns.
              O
                 A is used before singular nouns that begin with a consonant sound.
                 a boy, a dog, a house, a doctor, a book, a shop
                  A is also used before nouns that begin with a vowel but have a long consonant
              O
                  sound.

                 a university, a unique person, a uniform, a useful book
          In the above words, the letter u is pronounced as you, which begins with consonant y.
